Summer in Florida calls for light and bright pieces and this knitted tank, Slope by Shibui Knits, is a perfect addition to my summer wardrobe. I was first drawn to the color of this yarn. It’s so bright and fresh. I had already made a tester version of Slope in a caramel color (which unfortunately is NOT a color that looks good on me) so I felt confident making up this tank in a more expensive fiber.
The yarn itself is spectacular. The weight and drape are so lovely to work with. I’m a total convert to Shibui yarns! I went to a demonstration of their new line at Sheep Thrills, my local yarn shop in Lauderhill with my daughter Amelie a few months ago and had to have this. We got a sample of all the different yarns and got to check out some lovely samples. I’m also working on another Shibui make right now. A pure white tank with a silk lower edge, Mirage, in Fern (organic cotton) and silk cloud. I was able to try on the sample made in the same color which was wonderful as I could see that the size small fit me perfectly. I wish I could always try on a sample before knitting!
This tank was made in a size small though I shortened the armholes a tiny bit. I love the fit at the upper neck and shoulder. In these photos it looks a bit short but that is because I’ve actually lost a bit of weight and need to take in these pants. They are sitting a bit lower on my waist then they should. I love the hi low hem-It’s a bit more modern and looks amazing with my new Wave wrap skirt which has this same shade of green in it. I’ll share a pic on Instagram soon of that combo.
Some of my favorite things about this knitting pattern are the beautiful cast on edge using the German twisted cast on method, the way the armhole and neckline is bound of for a strong edge using a sloped bind off and the 3 needle bind off of the shoulder seam which makes for a clean perfect seam.
I’m already planning another version of this tank in the longer version in navy per my husbands request.

Every time the kids and I head out to the playground or pool I’ve been knitting while they play. I find it so relaxing. I really like having something to do when I’m outside and love that I can be busy while chatting with other parents or sitting by myself. This was almost entirely knit that way over the last two months a little bit at a time.
These photos were taken at my mothers right after I finished for Me Made May, so it hadn’t been blocked yet. It looks even nicer now. The landscaping makes for a perfect backdrop for this color.
We’re fully into summer now with the kids out of school. I’m really looking forward to the summer in our new home and neighborhood. We started it off with a bang this weekend while my brother was visiting. We attended Starry Nights at NSU art museum (more pics on Insta) with the whole family viewing the Frank Stella exhibit again. The kids loved all the crafts that are a part of the mini muse program there. The next day we headed over to my parents home for a brief visit before heading over to my sister’s new home in Sarasota. We had a great visit there. Her home is perfect for entertaining-it looks like a vacation rental. Then we headed home with my brother as he’s working on this coast for two days. Whirlwind days- I need a break after all that driving!
I also made my bro an awesome reversible Star Wars hoodie made out of all his old tees. I have to get pictures to show it off! Back soon with more makes-I’ve sewn so much over the past few months. Happy Summer Sewing!
