DKNY Vogue Patterns V1488 Tie Front Shirtdress
I bought up a bunch of DKNY Donna Karan for Vogue Patterns before they went out of print and have had this tie front shirtdress (V1488) on my “to make” list for about a year now.
I was surprised how much I like this on me. The fit still needs a few tweaks but I love the style lines and the wrap tie in the front is such an unexpected element. I love the DKNY patterns for just this reason. I always learn a new skill or construction technique. This was a relatively simple sew. The only tricky bit was attaching the waist panels cleanly. You can see some other DKNY patterns I’ve made up here and here!
All the Details:
Fabric-IKEA Navy Cotton Curtain
I thought I’d test this out for fit and style in an inexpensive fabric first before committing to it. The navy cotton fabric is a large IKEA curtain I bought from the clearance bin.
Pattern- DKNY Vogue Designer Patterns #V1488
Tie Front Shirtdress (OOP), Size 12
Loose-fitting, pullover dress has neck and front band, yoke with mock-tuck, front extending into tie ends, bias front loop, fold-back cuffs, narrow hem and button tab on sleeves, and front button closing. Bias slip (close-fitting through bust) has shoulder straps, self-binding finishing neckline and underarms, and very narrow hem.
Next time I make this I’m planning on adding some ease to the sleeves and maybe lengthening them to a three-quarter length with a bit of volume nearer the wrist. I’m also going to widen the skirt at the lower back since it’s a bit tight. I may change-up the front placket. Either make it hidden or add a seam for inseam buttons.
I’m looking forward to making this in a slightly more sheer fabric and making the bias slip as well.
Just a simple but easy to wear dress. My 6 yr old styled me for this mini photoshoot -so cute! Ami has quite a flair for style at 6.
It’s been an wonderful last two weeks. School is going really well for both kids. Ami got to loop with her teacher to 1st grade so she’s happy as a clam and Nigel loves 3rd grade.
Coldplay put on an AMAZING show in Miami and Vic and I truly enjoyed our first child free weekend. Best concert ever!
We spent Labor Day weekend with our family on the west coast (of FL). The kids love spending time with their cousins and helped my dad work on his model trains. I caught up on some movies too-Baby Driver +Wonder Woman! We rarely get to the movie theater so it was a real treat.
Today I’m enjoying my first day off by myself while the kids are in school and looking forward to taking it easy!
Hope everyone here in the states had a great Labor Day long weekend! I’ll be trying to post all month long for #sewphotohop on Instagram so be sure to follow me there! Happy Sewing!
