I whipped up these indigo voile selvedge wrap pants over the summer when I was looking for something blue to wear for the 4th of July. I had re-ordered some of this gorgeous 100% organic cotton dobby voile in Indigo and thought it would work fabulously as a pair of lightweight and breezy wrap pants. I’ve worn these constantly over the summer and into fall. I love the drape! They flow in the wind without revealing too much. Perfect Florida pants!
I used this fabric last to make a bias shift dress and just love it. It’s so lightweight but still fully opaque. I went with a tried and true pattern, my modified lekala #4024 summer wrap pants. I’m wearing them here with an Emberlynn tank from Club Monaco and my new Keens.
I’ve been refining the fit on these for a while. My first pair were a crazy sheer print and my second pair are a basic gray culotte that I wear to work. I’ve adjusted these based on my sloper, added more darts and increased the amount these wrap around the leg. By far my favorite detail on these pants are the selvedge edges. I cut this pair to utilize the selvedge at the front edges as well as widening and lengthening the back belt that wraps around the front. The front ties in back with indigo ribbon left over from my last project and I added a facing to the back for a cleaner bulk free finish since I always tie my pants in the front.

I’m working on narrowing down my fall/winter wardrobe sewing plans and thinking about handmade gifts for the holidays. I already have fabric set aside to make two Chanel style jackets in Caribbean blue and a natural tweed silk. The first will be using a beautiful Claire Schaeffer pattern so I can focus on some slow sewing with couture details. I’ve been busy repurposing my husbands old clothing (polos and dress shirts). So far I’ve made cargo shorts for my son, matching patchwork rompers for myself, my daughter and her doll and tested out some wearable muslins of self drafted and vintage patterns.
We’re heading over to the other coast this week to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. I just finished reading Homo Deus A Brief History of Tomorrow (amazing book!) so I’m looking forward to some good discussions with the fam who have already read it. It should be a wonderful very long weekend with good food (I’m making a brined turkey), family and (fingers crossed) healthy kiddos. Nigel was sick for a full week with the flu and then Ami caught something this past weekend. I really need the rest and relaxation. Hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving!
