Kids Clothes Week-Summer 2015
Kids Clothes Week just finished and I’m thrilled with all the sewing I’ve done for my kiddos! I opted to condense my sewing time this go around as I’ve had family in town all week. My little brother is visiting from NYC and my niece came from Texas. We’ve had an amazing week visiting with them! Lots of time swimming at the pool, hanging out at my Mom’s. We rented a boat this weekend and went sailing in Naples up toward Marco then spent some time at the beach on Keewaydin Island. So beautiful! The guys all went fishing and brought home 13 fish for a nice fish fry at our place. Tomorrow we’re spending the last day together at the Naples Botanical Garden-our fav place!
I broke my sewing down into 3 mini sessions of about 2 hrs. each and got everything I wanted to make sewn up. The kids are always excited when I sew for them so they don’t mind at all that I’m sewing away. I also decided to pace myself and forgo posting everyday like I’ve previously done. I added my projects to the project pool as I finished them on the KCW blog. Blogging and pics take longer then the actual sewing does!
I used my own patterns this time around. Two little dresses for Ami that I drafted using my free Flora Swimsuit pattern as a base + I mended her favorite green leggings with little heart patches. For Nigel I had been saving up my husbands old shirts to refashion. I made two pair of super comfy board shorts. I made up the pattern for my custom children’s swim line on Etsy. Plus a slightly altered raglan sleeve T-from my rashguard pattern. I may make more of these refashions for my Etsy shop.
My brother requested shorts like Nigel’s as soon as he saw them. So I made 3 shorts for him as well! He headed off to Goodwill to pick out T shirts immediately after we left for the day. So I actually did end up sewing almost every day this week anyway. :)
My kids don’t like to wear my makes unless they’re comfortable- so I only make knits for them lately. Plus they really have way more clothes than they need with the hand me downs they get from their bigger cousins. This weeks makes are all refashions. I’m on a strict no fabric buying budget for the month. Ami’s Space Girl dress is from my old Title Nine swim suit( the sleeves were the bra cups :) combined with my swim skirt and the Orange and Gray Stripe dress is from my RTW Tank that had a cross back and a gray tee of my husbands. Nigel’s Raglan is made from Vic’s Royal Navy Tee + red tee and grey tee. His shorts are from a red tee and an Ofishulz tee. His white shorts are from Vic’s Red Hot Chili Peppers tee. Our fav!
I have 2 more projects for them in the works- new backpacks for school next year. I want to wait to order some nicer fabrics for those. I’m loving these floral’s for Ami at Honey Be Good and I’m thinking about using this pattern from Chris W Designs on Etsy for Nigel. I’ll use my McCall’s pattern agian for Ami’s, you can see my earlier version for Nigel here. Nigel needs a larger one for 1st grade and Ami will -hopefully- start preschool in the fall. She’s on 4 waiting lists since VPK fills up fast down here. Unless we move before the school year I may have to wait to send her until next summer.
Hope everyone is having an awesome summer and had a productive KCW!
