Silk Zandra Rhodes Tiered Jacket-Vogue 1551
I fell instantly for the painterly strokes of blue and green in this cotton silk print. It’s light as air and just so beautiful. It makes me smile every time I look at it!
I wasn’t sure what to make with it at first since it’s a bit bolder than my usual choices. After searching through my pattern stash I went with the peplum tiered jacket by Zandra Rhodes Jacket for Vogue Patterns, V1551. A perfect match for this diaphanous design.
I bought a few yards of this print after winning a gift card from Marcy Tilton early in the Spring. I tried to stay practical picking out some wearable basics but splurged on this more extravagant cotton silk print. I’ve been trying to make my sewing a bit more wearable with a good selection of basic with a pop of spontaneous pieces.

Misses’ Tie-Front Cover-Up with Peplum-Style Tiers, Size 12 waist lengthened by 1″.
Pacific Grove Silk Cotton Print (OOS), 3 yards from Marcy Tilton
Last weekend was my Ft. Lauderdale Annual Luncheon for my ASG Chapter(such fun!) and I wore this look for the fashion show and got a ton of compliments. I love the drape as this moves. The silk cotton mix is deliciously soft and light and floats as you walk. The two tiers, which are really just simple squares, shows off the print perfectly.
The only alterations I made were to lower the waist ( I try to avoid empire waists) and to take out some fullness in the upper back which is a normal alteration for me. Vogue is pretty consistent for me sizing wise so I cut this in my usual size 12 which is smaller than my measurements but my preferred level of ease. I love the fit and that the sleeves have a bit more ease so it’s easy to wear and move in. I’m wearing it here with a self drafted tank and leggings (I’ve got a perfect one seam fit down on these now!) both in knits from Marcy Tilton. I’m picturing wearing this with jeans for fall.
October just flew by. Nigel turned 9 and was so excited to make chorus in school. That boy is always singing! Things are just getting back to normal here post storm and the kids are back in their school routine. Ami is having a fab year- she looped with her kindergarten teacher so she has all her friends with her again for 1st grade. The kids and I are making some wonderful friends our second year here. On the downside I’ve been working like crazy this month. No time to blog or sew for myself. I’ve realized I need to scale back some of my time demands.
My ASG luncheon two weeks ago was wonderful. It’s always so interesting getting together with such a talented group of sewers. We had a lovely meal followed by auctions and a fashion show showing off the works of our members and then a children’s fashion show. Plus I bid on and won an auction item for a doll (with gorgeous handmade clothes the CAB members made) so my daughter was in seventh heaven when I came home. Especially because the doll has brown hair like her and teal eyes-her very favorite color! The best part is that the auction money will go towards sending sewing machines out to our Houston ASG members who lost so much.
I have so many more makes to share so hopefully I can play catch up this month! Happy Sewing!
