Blue Stripe Charlie Caftan Mini

I’ve been wearing this dress at least once a week this summer. It’s my second version of the Charlie Caftan-this time as the mini. You can see my first version here (from pattern testing-so more details and fit info) here.  This Blue Stripe Charlie Caftan Mini is a perfect pool and beach cover-up as well as being easy to slip on in the morning to walk the kids to school.  This dress has everything you could want- it’s comfy and cute + pockets.

This make was made using some striped cotton yardage I received from one of the ladies at ASG who was destashing. I got a ton of fabric which really helped fill out my summer wardrobe.  I never turn down free fabric!

I had limited fabric to work with so I first cut the front on the fold and then separated the back pattern into two pieces with a horizontal strip placed in between for contrast.  I really love that little detail.

This mini has the regular sleeve depth which I have no issue with coverage wise.  The V lies nice and flat with this design and I like the gathered front waist detail-especially now that the waist was lowered post testing.  I’ll probably make the pleat version next summer.  This is such a great little shift pattern.

It’s been a busy few weeks here getting back to normal post Irma. I’ve been super busy with my freelance sewing (I make Irish dance costumes) and work so finding time to sew for myself (and my kids) has been minimal.  Though I did manage to whip up a gorgeous silk tank last week. It has a bit of lycra in the silk which makes it even more comfy. Plus my oldest turned 9 this past weekend!  Can’t believe how fast the time goes by.  We had a lovely family celebration at my parents plus Vic and I got to go see Blade Runner 2049!!!! It was amazing- even better than the first one which I didn’t think was possible.  We all took turns over the weekend to go see it as couples so we could discuss the movie together Saturday night.

Next on the list is Halloween sewing! I’ll share a post soon on my planning once I shop this weekend. We’re doing a mermaid/greek god family theme which I’m really excited about!   I also have my ASG annual meeting/luncheon coming up this month so I’m working on finishing up some items for the fashion show.

That’s it until next time…Happy Sewing!

Well crikey luv, that back pattern engineering is truly excellent. I really love when you can see someone has put their thinking cap on and figured out something clever like that – well done, yet another thing for my sewing list. I actually think I prefer it in the shorter length, better on stairs. But then again I imagine myself Pina Colada in hand swooshing about in the maxi too – hmmm. X

I love the Charlie Caftan in the short version. It probably looks good in the longer length also. The silk jacket in the fabulous fabric looks soooo good on you. Great selections. You look wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
