Coral Linen Vintage Vogue V9105

I’ve been slowly working on this gorgeous Vintage Vogue dress V9105, a 1954 Original, for the last month or so.  This was part of my Spring sewing plans for casual house dresses.  While this didn’t turn out exactly how I envisioned- it’s much dressier then intended- I really love it!

I always love a dress you can twirl in!

The seam lines and side buttons were what drew me to this pattern.  It reminded me a bit of the Altuzarra sweater and skirt I saw in Vogue a few months back on Penelope Cruz.  I love the intricate seaming and shaping, it really gives you a beautiful hourglass shape even if you don’t have one!

I made this up in a Coral linen from Cali Fabrics (4 yds) which has a beautiful light hand.  Gorgeous linen!  After I started I though a bit of decorative stitching on the edge would make this pop.  My Singer has a ton of decorative stitches I’ve been trying to make a point of using.  I looked back at my Sewing Inspiration board for the new year and saw how similar this was looking to a Paul Poiret dress I had pinned.  I decided to take it a step further and add a second row of decorative stitching and some bright cream pearlescent buttons.

Construction wise this dress is a straight size 14.  I did have to take in the back seam at the upper back-which still gapes a bit.  So that will be the main change I make if I make this again.  I did a deeper hem then was shown as well.  Otherwise the fit is pretty spot on.  I tend to fit the Vintage patterns really well with very few alterations.

I also skipped the interfaced interior skirt/petticoat.  It seemed a bit excessive and costumey to me.  I did add the interior stay ribbon which really makes this dress hold it’s shape and stay secure.  All the buttons are bound which makes for a lovely finish.  Plus it has pockets!

Thanks! I’m really glad I decided to add the decorative stitching, it really makes the dress. :)
