Dusty Rose Micro Rib Knit Ruska Tee

Lately I’ve been trying to add a few new colors to my wardrobe. Some purples, mauves, dark green and red. If you looked through my closet right now its almost all shades of blue, white and a pop of rust/coral. Time to mix it up a bit. So when I saw this micro rib knit in this Dusty Rose colorway at Blackbird Fabrics I snapped it up. It reminded me of the mauve of my Drape drape Dress which I had unexpectedly loved the color of.

This Ruska tee is the perfect base pattern that can me modified in so may ways. Finding a good basic pattern that fits well is everything! Plus, something about a quick + easy sew is really refreshing. They may not be exciting but making something you know you can wear all the time is just great. As my sewing time has decreased with my new work schedule being able to fit in some quick projects has really helped me get back my sewjo.

So, a few things about this tee. It’s a modified Ruska tee from Breaking the Pattern. You can see my spruce version here. Love that book-the patterns are fab! I started out making this as the split front dress version but the fabric was sooo drapey that it wasn’t cooperating. My vent looked crazy! Probably not the best choice of fabric for this project, but I love how it finally turned out. The length was just dragging it down so I cut it back to the tee length and then lowered the neckline until it was where I wanted it- about 3″ lower. I then cut a simple neckband and serged it on.

My sleeves got adjusted to more of a cap sleeve as well. Everything was put together on the serger and then the hem and sleeves were coverstitched.

I really love the effect of the center front seam with this rib fabric. I wish you could see it in person because it’s just beautiful. This tee looks the most RTW of my makes. This fabric really is luxurious. It has the softest hand and drapes beautifully. I just love wearing this because it feels amazing.

It does pill slightly but that’s because I ignored the care instructions which do say dry clean only. I don’t dry clean anything so I knew there was a chance that would happen. It does wash fine, I just probably will hang my next version to dry instead of throwing it in the dryer.

I’m wearing this tee with my white Morgan Jeans. I’m so happy to now have a few more things to wear these jeans with! I’m slowly breaking them in-non stretch denim does take some time to loosen up. Can’t wait until they’re as comfy as my older jeans. I should have originally sized up but luckily all my walking with the dog has slimmed me down a bit. I was so happy when I pulled these out at the beginning of winter and they fit perfectly! These really are my best constructed pair of denim.

Back soon with more. Happy Sewing!
