Fall is here, and for the first time ever, I started my planning early! Here in Florida I don’t really start wearing fall colors until October, but this year I’m getting a head start in preparation for my fall and winter travel plans. I want to have a handmade capsule wardrobe ready to go!

I feel like I haven’t blogged in ages so I’m excited to slowly start reviving this space. I’m hoping in the next few weeks to get some better pictures of my Spring makes, share some new content over on my YouTube channel and get back into a regular sewing habit. Now that I’ve finished up my degree and have eased into my new job I feel like I finally have a bit more free time to focus on my hobbies.
So back to the sewing plans: This season I’m sewing with a very specific goal. A mini capsule travel wardrobe that works both for Florida’s lingering heat and for my upcoming work trips. I’ll be heading to California in November and Mexico City in December. I also have work projects coming up in Canada and Argentina.

My first projects will be focused on creating a wearable and practical wardrobe in Fall ready colors. Chocolate Brown, Pale Tans, Cool Toned Pinks and shades of Mauve. Plus a few makes in cool toned green fabrics. I’ll make 3 tees, 2-3 Turtlenecks, 3 pairs of trousers in different weights (light, medium and heavy), a statement layering jacket perfect for travel and my airplane look, and a denim style jacket. Later in Fall I’ll be working on some new activewear and some fun accent pieces. Once Winter comes around I’ll probably scale my sewing back and focus on winter whites and the pale cool tones shown in my mood board.

Before I pick my fabrics, I always start with inspiration. I’ve put together a Pinterest mood board for Fall Sewing Plans that highlights the colors, shapes, and layering ideas I’m leaning toward this season. Check it out below:
This season, instead of building from a general palette, I started with one fabric that sets the tone.

Etro Deadstock “Floral Tapestry” French Terry Knit – EOS Fabrics
I instantly fell in love with this print in shades of sandy beige, lavender, plum, blush pink, steel blue, caramel, chocolate, burgundy, and indigo all running through it. This will become my statement layer — the one item that ties everything else together.
Neutrals are always my glue pieces. I keep them in lighter-weight fabrics since I live in Florida, but I choose tones that still read as fall. This year I’m especially loving caramel and chocolate shades — they make everything feel cozy and rich without being too heavy. I always include one structured piece — usually a jacket — because it really elevates a capsule. This will be my go-to layer for travel days and for work dinners. Making coordinating pieces out of the same fabric is the key to creating mix-and-match looks that feel polished.

I like to plan my travel capsules by silhouette so I can see how each piece functions in multiple outfits:

- 1 Travel Outfit
- 2 Work Outfits (Install Days – casual but professional)
- 1 Evening Look
- 1 Exploring Nature/Sightseeing Outfit (sporty)
- 1 Set of Pajamas and/or a Yoga Set
When I plan for travel, I always start with fabrics that are easy to wear and mix together. My goal is to pack light but still feel like I have options — so two pairs of pants, a few tops, one jacket, one cardigan, and one statement piece usually cover me for a week-long trip. I’ll also plan pajamas and yoga/lounge sets that can double as backups if needed. For shoes, I stick with sneakers for the plane and one pair of flats or boots. The key is crossover pieces: three or more items that can be styled in different ways.

So that’s my full plan for fall sewing and my fall travel capsule. Find out more by heading over to my YouTube channel. I’ll be sharing progress updates along the way, and later I’ll film a complete travel wardrobe video once these pieces are finished. I hope this gives you a good look at my process for planning capsules — from mood boards and color palettes to fabric choices, to packing ideas. Let me know in the comments what you’d like me to share more about — maybe how I make my mood boards, or how I plan silhouettes for travel.

Travel Hopefully in your new clothes and vibrant career!
