Here is my first wardrobe capsule collection look for Fall! Look No. 1 consists of a Nautical Stripe Yoyo Top, Liesel & Co.’s Classic Shirt & a self drafted button detail Rust Pant. I just shared this look and my first makes for Fall/Winter 2023-2024 on my YouTube channel if you missed it! Check out my November Makes video.
I wasn’t sure how this look would come together. The sweater/ top isn’t exactly what I envisioned- but it’s growing on me! I LOVE the blouse and the pant is so comfy and the color of the pants just makes me smile in this amazing red orange!
I am going to try to find another knit fabric to try and make the look I was really envisioning in my head- but for now this is great! I may actually end up knitting something at some point. But probably not until next year. My sewing queue is totally full at the moment!
Let’s start by talking about this pant. It’s self drafted with a very high waist, a straight cut waistband – that I made and fixed 4+ times- and a lovely wide leg. It has a zipper fly using the technique from Johanna Lundström at The Last Stitch on YouTube (check out her tutorial). I also have her jeans book- it’s fantastic! The pant has two darts in the back and topstitched belt loops. I used a grosgrain ribbon to finish my interior that looks so pretty. The pants have a nice deep hem and a button tab I designed that is sewn into the side seam. You can close the tab at either button for a different leg fit- plus I just love the look of the buttons! I used large tortoiseshell buttons. The fabric and trims were all purchased from Mood Fabrics.

This blouse is another winner! I adore the fabric- this champagne satin batiste is slightly sheer with a beautiful sheen. It feels so luxurious! I have a vintage shirt in a very similar looking fabric that I just love. The shirt itself is a great slim fit blouse. Love the cuffs and plackets and the pockets are easy to make with her templates. Some of the best pattern instructions I’ve used. I don’t love the hem finish, it’s fine but I like a deeper hem on a blouse so I’ll probably draft a facing hem for my next version. This shirt does fit fine, but I prefer a slightly oversized dress shirt so I will probably size up next time. Just my personal preference on how I like things to fit. I did accidentally put the plackets on the wrong side. I fixed it so no one else would notice- next time they’ll be much better though. I used cream and gold buttons I purchased online from Joann’s ( I had a few already in my stash) and love how they look.

I really want to make another version of this blouse! I think this will get alot of wear! I may need to order some more of this fabric too!

So of course after revising all my plans the original Stripe Top worked best for the complete look. But here’s a quick look at the Maritime Top. I’m going to blog about that pattern make more in the future- styling it with a different pant. The fit is a bit too wide in the shoulder for me- but still super cute! I got a bunch of great suggestions to fix it on my last video. I’m going to compare the pattern to my sloper to check it and will report back. The Lady McElroy fabric is just gorgeous!
The sweater/top started out as a Yoyo Top from Style Arc. I used all self fabric (this navy and cream stripe fabric from Core Fabrics which is nice and beefy) but didn’t love how it was looking. So I removed the neckline and cuffs and tried some cream ribbing I had in my stash. It looks cute- don’t get me wrong- but it’s not *exactly* what I was envisioning. It works better layered than I thought it would so I was happily surprised. I;m on the lookout for a new knit- maybe a sweater knit- in a slightly wider larger stripe. The look is still great though! I love how these images turned out!
I’m working my way through getting pictures of all my new makes so I can review and discuss them here on the blog. Taking videos is surprisingly much easier than getting pics! I take everything myself and my camera is very basic. I really need to upgrade my gear.
You can see in this last pic we’ve been decorating for Christmas. Off to work on finishing those last few gifts I’m sewing. If you need a few last minute holiday gift ideas check out my last blog post and YT video. Until next time, Happy Sewing!
