My new embroidery pattern is *almost ready* for release so I thought I’d take a step back and do a quick post today about some of my favorite things this month!
The month started out with a visit to NSU Art Museum with my mom to see the exhibit, Confrontation: Keith Haring and Pierre Alechinsky and to attend an amazing lecture, Fashion Icons: Anna Sui and Barbara Hulanicki in Conversation. The exhibit was so interesting and unexpected. Seeing the influences of the Printmaker Alechinsky and how it shaped Keith Haring as a young artist. This paralleled the Anna Sui talk where she shared how much Barbara Hulanicki, of Biba Fame, influenced her own path in Fashion. Really thought provoking, listening in on artists and how history shaped their work. Check out my earlier post on the World of Anna Sui Exhibit from last year.

Fashion Inspiration- Cecilie Bahnsen and Runway
I love watching all the runway shows on You Tube and have been voraciously viewing the Paris Fall/Winter shows. Dior’s show was bold with it’s Neon tech looks, laser printing and my favorite, the asymmetrical skirt hems. The portraits with double eyes were a bit creepy though. Some of my favorite looks were the teal blue trench and iridescent gowns, plus some gorgeous embroidered coats. The color palette of Chanel’s Infinite Tweeds in pinks, plums, and seafoam were totally my jam. Almost makes me wish it got colder here!
I recently read a fabulous article on Cecilie Bahnsen that showed 48 hours in her day on the New York Times app. I went down a wormhole looking at her work and studio. Her recent runway show is all about fabric manipulation and texture. I love her color groupings and the few blues and greens were my favorites. The gathers and ties and the hair in random plaits make for a lovely romantic look. On my Pinterest page linked below you’ll find links to all the shows as well as some great articles, interviews and videos.

Watch and Read
My husband and I just binged Vikings: Valhala on Netflix. Now we’re slowly working our way through the original Vikings on Hulu. I love the focus on history and folklore in these shows. Currently reading The Edge of the World: A Cultural History of the North Sea and the Transformation of Europe. We also quickly binged Reacher on Prime. I’m a HUGE Jack Reacher fan and am so thrilled with this adaption, currently on Book 23 in the series. Plus I’m watching the last season of Discovery of Witches and it’s almost as good as the books were! https://www.goodreads.com/sewpomona

On a lighter note The NYTimes had a super fun little article on the 90’s Art School Scene. “Art School Looked Like a Lot of Fun In the ’90s” about the Instagram page @90sartschool. As an Art School Alumni- ’98 Hartford Art School- all these images are super nostalgic.
