Hokkah Linen Orange Poppies Dress | Style 2618

I’m back today with a dress I made earlier in the year and then totally forgot to blog about! I pulled it out of my closet to wear in early fall and so I have a mix today of old and new photos to share. This is a vintage pattern from the 90’s I’ve made before: Style 2618. Last time I made a wearable muslin in an Ikat print and this time I’ve really got the fit down to a T!

This is made in that gorgeous Hokkah Linen Orange Poppies print that was so popular. I saved up for this splurge-it’s a pricier linen- and am so glad I did! I made an orange poppies tank top with my first purchase with just a yard. This time I got more yardage as soon as it was back in stock at Stonemountain & Daughter.

The construction is identical to my first version with 2 changes. I graded out at the hips for ease of movement and omitted the back slit since I cut it on the fold.

It’s a very simple sew with front and back waist darts, bust darts and a curved collar band. The neck darts are fantastic since I could take those in just a bit more to get the fit right. That’s someplace I commonly need to alter so the pattern made that really easy. I love the loop buttons and the back facing behind the buttons makes this very practical to wear (no gaps).

It could also be worn open as a duster too. I added the pants pockets from the pattern to the dress and stitched them down.

Fabric- Stonemountain & Daughter

Stonemountain still has yardage in very similar colorway (looks like maybe just a shade lighter?)- Hokkoh – Linen – Fresh Poppies – Natural/Orange available if you missed out! I bought mine way back in May of 2021.

This fabric is just dreamy to work with. It has a lovely hand and drape and the print is gorgeous. If you were on the fence it’s totally worth it. It’s even prettier in person!

Hokkoh – Linen – Poppies – Orange

This beautiful lightweight linen has great drape and a soft hand. It is not sheer and would be perfect for tops, dresses, skirts, and light jackets.

Vintage Orange Buttons from my Stash

My son took a few pictures of me at the Naples Botanical Gardens on a visit a few months ago with my parents and the kids when we saw the Frida exhibit. Look how long my hair was! I love revisiting the gardens since we used to be members when the kids were little before we moved over to the Ft. Lauderdale area.

Back soon with some end of summer makes! Trying to get everything photographed and up on the blog before I get into my Fall/ Winter sewing. Happy Sewing!
