Holiday Sewing for the Kids

holiday sewing, sew pomona

Has anyone else gone a little overboard sewing for the holidays?  I’ve been sewing for the kids like a fiend since the beginning of December.  I think I may have gone a little overboard, but boy the sewing was fun and each project helped me get a little better at my sewing. I’m glad I started early though since I had everything done way in advance and could relax a bit before Christmas! Here’s what I used and made:

Finch Sewing Studio fabrics I used (links from their Etsy shop):

Flora’s Oasis Rosa Yellow Navy White Floral – Tule by Leah Duncan

Terrain Slate in Blue, Yellow, Coral dots – Tule by Leah Duncan

Native Fringe Celeste in Gray Blue White and Coral – Tule by Leah Duncan

Patterns I Used:

Dress F & X from Girls Style Book by Yoshiko Tsukiori and H.H.

These patterns are so classic and adorable, with easy to follow instructions and sizing was spot on.  I love working with japanese patterns since they print multiple patterns per sheet that are super easy to trace off.   I made my daughters dress in a size 4 so it would fit a bit longer( she’s growing like a weed) and because the clothes are meant to be a bit wider and often have added belts it would be easy to fit any child’s body shape.

Boy Flat Front Pants with pockets from MADE  from this pants tutorial and this pocket tutorial

I really love this pattern, so cute and versatile, I made about 8 pairs of these pants in different fabrics for my kids and family friends for the holidays.  I sized it up to a 5T for my son and his best friends (brother and sister) and a 3T for my daughter and her best buddy.  I love Dana’s easy to follow instructions and step by step directions.  Really helpful when you’re just starting out and LOVE her styling.

Also check out My Holiday Sewing Board on Pinterest!  I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday, I know I’m enjoying having all the family home for vacation.  What did you make this holiday season?  I’d love to know!

  5. […] I’ve been sewing up a storm the past two days for Kids Clothes Week! Make sure you check out the KCW blog to see more fabulous makes!  I’m going to keep these posts short and sweet so I can focus on sewing.  Here is yesterday’s make, a highwaisted v-neck blouse with small frilled cap sleeves for my Amelie.  This is another pattern from Girls Style Book, Blouse M.  You can see the other patterns I made from the same book here and here and here. 6. […] This was supposed to be my last make for KCW (Kids Clothes Week-check out the blog!) all cut out and ready to go, but I ran out of steam after the full week of sewing for my kids!  Then we were hit with a warm spell and my mom hinted that I should wait to sew it up until after my birthday- a pretty broad & winking hint, so I knew I was getting the serger I had on my wishlist.  This was my 5yo son Nigel’s one request for me to sew, a new hoodie in dark blue (no prints allowed) with green buttons.  Our weather here in Florida is so mild that Nige only has one other hoodie and a few long sleeve shirts.  He wears a semi uniform of light blue polos and shorts/pants to his montessori preschool (which my husband proudly irons for him every morning- so sweet) that he really has little need for any more handmade clothing.  In these pics he’s also wearing the pants I made him over Christmas which you can read about here!
