KCW~ Sewing Plans and First Makes!

This week  I’m  focused on sewing for my kids for KCW-Summer (Kids Clothes Week if you haven’t heard of it).  I have a long list of projects that I keep putting off  that really need to get done so the timing is perfect.  I have my projects all cut out and ready to go.  I spent the day Sunday prepping all my patterns, tracings and fabric and generally organizing my sewing space. Now I can just focus on enjoying the sewing hassle free this week during nap/quiet time.  Big thanks to Sew Modern fabrics- their shipping is awesome less than 3 days to get my fabric in the mail and such lovely choices-so I’m all set to sew.

My sewing list for the week:

  • Blouse R, Girls Style Book – with added front pleats- for Ami size 3 {DONE!}
  • KID Pants, MADE– altered to Capri’s and sized up- for Ami {DONE!}
  • Cosi Swimsuit, Sew Pony , Views G & D- for Ami size 3
  • Skater, Kitschy Coo, altered to Boys Rashguard-for Nigel size 7-8Y
  • Swim Trunks, McCalls 6548-for Nigel size 6
  • Yoga pants, Jalie 3022-for Ami size 3
  • Backpack, McCalls 6410 (British/Nautical theme)-for Nigel

Not sure I’ll get to everything but It’s worth a try.  I’m not going to drive myself crazy with posting every day this go around, especially with the kids home all day.   I’ll just be posting today and maybe at the end of the week.

So without further ado here’s what I’ve made the past two days- a complete super adorable look for Amelie. I  LOVE this fabric from Sew Modern!  The little girl having a tea party with the forest animals is just too cute!

Both Birch Organics: Teagan White-Fort Firefly – Field Party &  Emily Isabella – Yay Day – Grassy Meadow

The blouse(R) from Girl’s Style Book, went together very quickly.  I first altered my pattern to add two tucks to each side of the button placket.  I slashed and spread- super easy- and really like the effect.  I used french seams throughout and bound my neck and sleeves with some cute ribbon I won from Pattern Postie, keeping everything on the interior enclosed and soft to the skin. Reminder to self- don’t blindly follow the instructions!  They had you finish the side seams and then do a double fold over for the sleeves.  Since I used french seams it was just a pain in the neck.  My solution was to bind again with ribbon leaving two tails at the end and securing them on the outside with a stitched triangle.  It made them extra secure and kept the angle of the sleeve looking great. Ami picked out the sparkly pink  buttons-Every time we go to the fabric store she picks out a set- my way to make sure outfits get worn!   I’m amazed at the improvement in my sewing in just the past year.  This make is so much more professional looking!

The Capri’s are based of my Go-To pant pattern for the kids from MADE.  This pattern is easy to grade up to fit for both my kids  and I love the added pockets! Lots of options on her blog to customize the pattern too!  I shortened these to a Capri length and used my madder dyed fabric remnants from my Centauree Dress to make the pockets.  I topstitched in a teal color a little border of tulips which I knew Amelie would love.  These were a quick sew, mostly on the serger, but taking care to press constantly and topstitch.  I added a strip of ribbon again to the front waist interior where the pockets overlap to keep it nice and soft.

Ami was so excited to head out and take pictures.  She loves to pose!  The pics below she was telling me a story about purple flowers and silver rocks.  She has such awesome facial expressions when she’s telling a story, complete with lots of hand gestures, she just cracks me up!

    What a lovely outfit, those trousers are such a nice shape & look really cool for the summer. I love your daughters storytelling gestures & expressions too! I’m taking part in KCW for the first time but haven’t had time to blog about anything yet. Good luck with your plans!
