I think this was my most successful KCW-Kids Clothes Week- so far! I got everything on my list finished and the kids LOVE their new clothes! Here’s what I made:
Blouse R, Girls Style Book – with added front pleats- for Ami size 3 & KID Pants, MADE- altered to Capri’s and sized up- for Ami– you can read more about these two makes here!
- Cosi Swimsuit, Sew Pony , View D- for Ami size 3
Fabrics: SunScreen UPF 50 Heather pink for the skirt, White UPF 50 for the suit, both from Rockywoods, and leftover kaleidoscope swim fabric from The Fabric Fairy for the ruffle straps. Pattern Notes: Cosi Swimsuit (from Sew Pony Vintage on Etsy) in size 3 view D. I used the patterns hip ruffles to alter my straps and used a double panel on the skirt that I placed on the hip. Next time I’ll shorten my pattern slightly in the body. Great basic swim pattern with tons of options.
- Skater, Kitschy Coo, altered to Boys Rashguard-for Nigel size 7-8Y & Swim Trunks, McCalls 6548-for Nigel size 7
Rashguard Materials: Heather Blue SunScreen UPF 50 4 way stretch from Rockywoods. Pattern: Girls Skater Dress (KitschyCoo) size 7/8. Pattern Changes: Modified to a rashguard top. Added length to the bodice and widened the neckband. My fav pattern for me and the kids! Easy to make (less than an hour) and always looks great! Plus so easy to modify :)
Swim Trunks Material: Skull print boardshort material from The Fabric Fairy. Pattern: McCall 6548 Size 7 Pattern Changes– None! These shorts were easy to sew and fit! I made these once before, last KCW and didn’t make them quite right, mainly because it was a refashion. This time around I had no problems with the pattern. I love the fold over front waistband that encloses everything giving a nice clean finish.
- Yoga pants, Jalie 3022-for Ami size 3
Pattern: Jalie 3022 Yoga Pants size 3(G) (I won this pattern from The Pattern Postie from IPM over at The Monthly stitch!) Materials: SunScreen UPF 50 in Heather Pink and Turquoise from Rockywoods. I LOVE this pattern! It comes on one giant sheet that you can trace off and the sizes! This goes from a 2 Toddler all the way up to a Women’s size 22! I’ve already traced off my size and can’t wait to make them! The instructions are fabulous-the best I’ve seen so far. Concise but easy to follow with nice illustrations. These sewed up so easily- less than an hour and I love the seam details with all the topstitching! I just discovered my edgestitch foot- can’t believe I hadn’t used it before!- and now my topstitching looks fab every time. The fit is spot on, length was perfect on my tall girl. And the fabric- this upf fabric is so soft and a dream to sew with. I have it in three colorways-its just wonderful!
My last make of the week- not clothes- is almost done too! Nigel starts kindergarten in a little less than 3 weeks so I’m making him his backpack! I’m using McCalls 6410 in British/Nautical theme (My husband was born in England).
I got so much sewn this week- I’m amazed! It helped that the kids were excited for new clothes that they were happy to watch me sew. Hope everyone else had an amazing KCW!

You got a lot done! I need to jump on the swimsuit sewing bandwagon but I want to finish up some more projects first. I’ve been wanting to make that Cosi ever since the testing call went out! And I’m so glad to see some Jalie love! I love their patterns so much but they hardly ever get talked about.
Thanks! The cosi is a great swimsuit-definitely give it a try! I do love Jalie, I’m surprised too I haven’t seen more of their clothes being made, they’re great!
Bathing suits, rash guards, and matching pants–adorable! I especially like the ruffles on Ami’s suit and the skulls on Nigel’s. Not to mention the clever addition of the turquoise stripe on the pants. Any age child or adult would love these.
Thanks Mom! The kids are so happy with these- which is the best! Nigel didn’t want to take off his outfit all day- That material is just so cozy! :)
