Mint Cactus Sandhill Sling

I’m finally back sewing and blogging! I’ve been sewing up a storm now that I’m weight-bearing after fracturing my ankle right before the new year. My foot is healing really well 3 months out, my stitches are barely noticeable and I’m slowly learning how to walk again!

First up on my to sew list was this Sandhill Sling from Noodlehead. I bought the pattern and all the supplies for myself at Christmas and the plan was to sew them up after Christmas on my vacation.

Life stepped in and I finally started back to sewing just in time for the Sandhill Sling Sew-along. Working at that slower pace with one video a week was perfect for me. When I finished my son thought I bought a new bag- because it was so professional looking- best compliment ever!

I’m not much of a bag maker- I think this is # 4- but this is by far my fav pattern so far. Easy to construct with professional looking finishes. I love that the inside is as pretty as the outside!

And check out this fabric! I just love the desert cactus print and the mint kona cotton lining is a prefect contrast with the coral colored zips! It has a front pocket that’s perfect for holding my phone and an interior elasticized pocket that I usually put my glasses in. Big enough to hold a book and oh so useful for me in my recovery.

A cross body bag is really the best design for me. No slipping off my shoulders and perfect as I scoot up and down the stairs in our home until I can climb the stairs again!

Detail Interior/Exterior:

I went with webbing in Sand to coordinate with the linen canvas and coral zippers for contrast. I’m glad I added the extra hang hook since I can set it on my walker when I’m not wearing it. I really like the hardware kits from Noodlehead. I’ll definitely be buying more to back a second bag.

On the Homefront

The kids just finished up their spring break which we kept very chill at home. The kids vegged out on video games but also played outside together every evening and did some cooking and reading too. We spent the weekend at the pool and my husband has almost finished up our bathroom renovation! Pics coming soon!

My kids are in for a big surprise this April Fools as my parents are coming over for their first visit in over a year!!! They got their second shots just over two weeks ago so they’re coming over for a short day trip and some hugs! We’ll still be staying cautious as we haven’t gotten our shots yet. My husband is getting us scheduled for ours at the VA since they opened it up to spouses now.

Looking forward to my spring sewing! I have a bunch of spring fabrics in lovely florals from Blackbird that just arrived as well as some vintage 80’s sewing patterns.

I just finished up some more home decor projects before jumping back into more complicated makes.

Back soon with more to share- Happy Sewing!
