Mood Boards & Spring Color Palette

Before I even pick up a pair of scissors, I always start with a seasonal mood board. This spring, my inspiration board is filled with soft whites, ivory, blush pinks, minty green, and accents of pale pink and lavender – all tones pulled directly from the fabrics I selected for this season.

You can take a closer look at the visuals I’m working from on my Pinterest boards:

These boards help me visualize how everything works together before I commit to cutting into any fabric. They’re also a great place to keep track of color inspiration, silhouettes, and styling ideas.

Here’s my curated Pantone Color Palette for Spring 2025:

  • PANTONE 11-0601 TCX – Bright White
  • PANTONE P 130-15 C – Muted Beige
  • PANTONE 11-0606 TCX – Pristine
  • PANTONE 11-0907 TCX – Pearled Ivory
  • PANTONE 12-2906 TCX – Barely Pink
  • PANTONE 15-1912 TCX – Sea Pink
  • PANTONE 16-1450 TCX – Flamingo
  • PANTONE 16-5907 TCX – Granite Green
  • PANTONE 7644 U – Dusty Plum

This palette feels fresh, romantic, and grounded in natural light—perfect for the handmade travel capsule I’m creating. I chose colors that coordinate easily, allowing me to mix and match pieces while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

Creating this visual foundation helps me stay consistent with my fabric and pattern choices and makes styling so much easier once the garments are finished. It also keeps me inspired throughout the season and gives me a clear direction when planning future makes.

After my mood boards are complete I shop for fabrics! The following are a mix of recent purchases as well as fabrics from my stash. I like to buy my fabrics for the upcoming season a few months early so I can plan out sewing.

After I’ve chosen my fabric I will go through my pattern stash first and then draft or buy patterns that I think would work well. I used to pick my patterns first and then choose fabric but I find this method works better for me so my wardrobe stays cohesive. I choose fabrics that are in my color palette and then decide on silhouettes. I’ll usually have a general idea of what I want to make based on my mood board, (a top, dress or skirt) which helps me decide what type of fabric to purchase (i.e. bottom-weight, shirting, etc.)
