Summer calls for pure comfort and this tank and skirt combo fits the bill perfectly. I love a simple cami with an easy pull on skirt. Easy to wear for day and transition into my daily yoga practice at night.
The cami is Jalie 3131 which I’ve made 3 of at this point. It’s a simple tank with a built in bra meant to be finished with fold over elastic for bra like straps. I love a cami with a built in bra and need one in all my colors! For this version I changed the construction order and finished the edges by sewing them wrong sides together and reversing them and then added the straps separately. They are actually navy fold over elastic just left unfolded and slipped through lingerie rings. I moved the strap placement to center back for a racer look. I find this a bit more comfortable-no slipped straps.
This fabric from Stylemaker is just gorgeous. It’s silky soft with great drape while being nice and opaque. Everything I’ve ordered from them has been lovely and very high quality.

The skirt was meant to be a dress. I had draped it on my dress form and was going for a really interesting gathered asymmetrical look. Unfortunately the coloring was really not good anywhere near my face. The dark navy is a bit too harsh for me and the cream was too yellow for my complexion. So after I draped the dress I cut it down to this skirt with side panels and a simple band at the waist. I wish I had taken pics before I cut it down but I was a bit frustrated when I saw how bad it looked on me I cut away all the seams to start over.
I made a matchy princess seam top using my knit sloper with the remnants but doubt I’ll wear it. I’m sure it would be so lovely on someone else. I’ll have to see if it will work for my daughter or niece.
I just adore this bold panel print though. I need to find something similar in another color way. The big positive though was that it was a great muslin that I used to make a swim tank sloper from. I was a bit disappointed at first that the dress didn’t work on me but this skirt is so comfy that I’ve worn it at least once a week.
What I’ve found really interesting is I reread the old Color Me Beautiful book and realized I totally had the wrong season for myself. I always thought I was an autumn when I lived up north but after reading it over I think I’m really a spring. I dyed my hair red for years which I think is what threw me off. Interestingly though all the colors in my handmade wardrobe are in spring colors and what wasn’t working for me anymore were the true fall colors. They look especially harsh here in Florida.
We spent another lovely weekend at the beach enjoying nature and leaving me so refreshed. We renewed our annual state park pass so we can enjoy the nice qiet and very easy to be socially distant park beaches. Hoping to get out in some canoes or kayaks in a few weeks. I’ve been sewing up a storm and have a ton of makes in the line-up to take pics of and share. Back soon with more summer makes! Happy Sewing!
