Organic Reversible Wrap Skirt

Organic Reversible Wrap Skirt

This week has been all about working on fitting my muslin’s for my fitted jacket and jeans while I wait on my ordered fabric to arrive and finish dyeing my denim, my indigo dye kit just arrived from noon dye studios :)  More updates soon!

I thought I’d take a break from the tedium and whip out a quick & easy sewing project for myself.  I made this Reversible Wrap Skirt from my shape, shape pattern book, in size large, in about a day start to finish.  The skirt in the pattern is made out of one continuous length of fabric but the yardage I had on hand was not quite wide enough so I broke the pattern up into 4 pieces and used flat felled seams on each section.

natural rainstorm

Natural Rainstorm from Near Sea Naturals

This was a beautiful piece of light weight American grown organic cotton that I ordered from Near Sea Naturals with a slanting weave resembling a rainstorm which is really pretty up close.  I used one of my favorite kilt pins that my mother got me in London a few years back to make it a bit more secure.  I plan on dyeing it sometime this week in my indigo bath with a shibori technique but it really is lovely on its own.  It has a simple reinforced buttonhole on one side and  self-made bias ties for the wrap closure that are inserted in the waistband.  The skirt is meant to be wrapped in different ways to show off the angular cutting of the piece which adds just a bit of interest to the piece.  Quick and easy and perfect for twirling!
