Pacific Grove Vogue V8871

Pacific Grove Vogue V8871

Can you tell how much I love this fabric!  This is dress #2 in Pacific Grove, a gorgeous landscape knit from Marcy Tilton.   After making my V Neck dress I had just enough fabric leftover to whip up this little dress.  It’s V8871, Very Easy Vogue, that I picked up during the last pattern sale to add to my ever-growing stash. I love the princess seams and curved side pieces-they’re really beautiful. Pacific Grove Very Easy Vogue V881 Princess Seam Dress Sew PomonaPacific Grove Very Easy Vogue V881 Princess Seam Dress Sew Pomona

The pattern is a very quick sew-though I added a few modifications.  My fabric was limited after I made the first dress so I cut the back pattern in half and then added a new seam allowance. Plus the back had to be cut upside down- luckily it’s not super noticeable.  I had only a few tiny scraps left after piecing this together creatively!  I also added bands to the neck and shoulder(turned under) and used a coverstitch to finish everything off.

I cut this in a 14 based on my measurements but can easily go down a full size next time.  I’m always cautious the first time around with sizing since it’s easier to remove than add.   I had to take out a wedge in the upper back (I forgot to do my usual narrow back adjustment) and remove all my seam allowance on the back I had pieced together and take in the sides a bit.

I just love this dress!  It’s so comfortable-this knit has a beautiful hand.  My two dresses in this print have already gotten a ton of wear this summer.  Plus once the weather cools these will both be easy to add layers too.

I know I’ll be getting a ton of use from this pattern.  I can’t wait to make the longer sleeveless view too!  I’m sure I could do some really interesting color blocking too with the side panels.  Really versatile staple.

On the home front I’m slowly adapting to my new schedule with the kids at school.  We had a great first two weeks! I love walking the kids to school everyday-easiest way to get back into my exercise groove.  Our new school is actually a bit closer to home so the kids find it easier.  Ami goes on her Hello Kitty Bike with the most sparkly girly helmet you’ve ever seen and Nigel goes on his scooter.

This is Ami’s first year away from me at school (in Kindergarten) so we had a lot of tears and homesickness-which wasn’t helped by getting croup the second day of school.  Luckily she recovered quickly and each day has been a bit easier for her.

I think the biggest transition has been for me.  I have 8am-2pm to myself for the first time in 8 years.  I’m looking for a part-time job but it’s a bit harder finding something in those limited hours then I thought it would be.  I may just need to take on some custom orders so I can get enough saved to start up a business. So if you’re interested in having me make you something custom (women + children’s wear/costumes/swimwear) please let me know!

  1. What a perfect little dress! Aren’t knits terrific–no zippers or other complications, yet easy-on and so nice to wear, too. You sure got your money’s worth out of this fabric piece!
