Pecan Burda 116 Midi Skirt & MMM 2023

I’m back today with the first make from my Spring Wardrobe Plans! I took these pics on our beach vacay up in Cocoa Beach last weekend and wore this look again yesterday for the first day of Me Made May! It’s so comfy and chic and I just love the way the fabric drapes in this skirt!

My pledge:

“I Rebecca at Sew Pomona pledge to wear my handmade wardrobe every day, working on redefining my style throughout May 2023”

Me Made May 2023

This is my 10th year taking part in the challenge and I love how much I learn each year.  My wardrobe is now almost entirely handmade, but I find the styling aspect incredibly helpful.

Are you planning on joining the challenge? Let me know in the comments- and leave your instagram handle/blog etc. so I can follow you too!

All the Details:

I’m keeping my pledge pretty simple-for me anyway-this year.  I want to try to see if I can restyle and rework pieces I’m not wearing regularly.

While MMM is NOT a photo challenge, I am planning to film my daily looks throughout the month.  I’’ll then share them here throughout the month. I’m planning on doing weekly roundups on YouTube and then a MMM Compilation post here on the blog at the end of the month.

I also bought Zo’s (from the Check Your Thread Podcast ) MMM planner to use for the Challenge this year and am finding it really helpful to jot down notes as I go. You can find it on her Podcast website under the shop tab.

This documentation really helps me to easily style my clothing later in the year quickly and easily.  I always find it annoying to do but it does pay off. It also lets me know what my wardrobe holes are and what I don’t need more of!

I’m wearing it here with my Black and White stripe tee (Marcy Tilton Fabric) that I made a few years ago and with my cropped cardigan I shared last week. You’ll be seeing this skirt agin with a new top I made too!

This skirt is super simple to sew up & totally beginner friendly! I love the drape and the length is spot on. I left my hem raw since this is knit so take that into account if you make it and plan on hemming. It has a simple waistband with inserted elastic. Easy as can be!

I’ve already made another one in mint that will be on the blog soon- or you can go check out my last YouTube vacation video to get a peak at some of my new makes!

I’ll have my first MMM roundup for the week on my YT channel this Friday. I am posting on Instagram– but not sure how long that will last- I really don’t enjoy that platform much anymore.

Back soon with more spring sewing! Happy Me Made May!
