Summer is right around the corner so it’s time for some fabulous Beach Ready looks! I made this lovely rayon challis caftan for our Beach Vacation up to Cocoa Beach and just love it. Easy to wear, soft and comfortable-plus it’s great for sun protection!

Drafting this was quite simple. I just took my blocks (woven sloper and sleeve sloper) and worked out a simple tunic and loose long sleeve. I designed this with self-face slit openings at the hem for ease of movement and gave this nice deep hems.
I’m planning on doing a YT video next month sharing how I go about the design process and drafting the neckline facing placket. Plus how to draft a basic Caftan with just your measurements. Just waiting on my fabric to arrive.

This fabric is so lovely, the drape and hand are perfect for lounging poolside or walking on the beach. I love this palm print in this fun orange color and am already planning out my next version.
I’m working on my summer plans for some classic swimwear, sporty activewear and everyday essentials. I’ll veer off from my Spring Wardrobe Plans for a bit and get ready for the heat! Plus I have some fabric arriving tomorrow to make something festive for the Fourth of July. I like to wear something patriotic so I’m planning out some mix and match pieces so they can do double duty. Follow me on YouTube for updates on those projects!

It’s the last week of school for the kids and then they are off for two relaxing months. This year will be so much easier since I work from home again. Last year was so frustrating trying to figure out our schedules while I was at work and shuttling them around. Thank goodness my mom was around to help. This summer will be nice and chill. It helps that they’re teens- and much more self sufficient.

I’m also about to start a new embroidery project that I’ll share in my May Makes video releasing soon. I just got in my supplies from my EGA Cyberstitchers’ Group Correspondence Course-Spring Splendor by Kay Stanis. It’s meant to be made as a sampler but I hate to waste a nice embroidery so I’m planning on working it into a make. Just not sure what yet.

Back soon with more makes! Until next time …Happy Sewing!
