The weather is quickly warming up here in Florida. Time to switch gears and start to focus on spring. My winter clothes have been packed away and spring cleaning is all done. I’ve been working on sketches and mood boards for the last few weeks to begin fleshing out what I want to make this spring and summer. Of course I won’t make everything I’ve sketched out, but the process really helps me narrow my focus and make a more cohesive wardrobe.

I also have a few basic items on my to do list to round out what’s already in my closet. Mostly easy sews so hopefully I’ll have time for some more interesting makes too. My work schedule has been crazy busy lately so fitting in sewing has been tricky.
To make- Basics:
- navy, light blue and white tank tops (with built in bras)
- leggings for yoga
- navy 3/4 sleeve knit top
- shorts
- lightweight summer skirt
- rashguard /sun protective dress for the beach
- swimsuit
We’re making a full look for our local ASG Group (Ft Lauderdale-Plantation Group) so that’s first on my list. Pictured above (center) and below (second from right) you can see the blouse I’m planning out in a pretty white swiss dot with a pale blue/aqua culotte with matching belt. We just finished checking the fit on our muslins, and other than a few minor tweaks mine is ready to go. Next month we’ll bring in our finished blouses and then start on a pant. We had all used the same pattern for our first project( mine was heavily modified) but everyone using the same pattern really didn’t work for everyone’s taste/style and fit so for our next project we’ll use a pattern of our choice. It’s been really helpful working on fit as a group and helping other members with less experience. Later in the Summer we’ll start on a jacket for a complete 3 piece look.

Spring 2020 Mood Boards

Here are a few of my sketches for the season. My main focus is on more mix and match blouses and a few fun dresses. One of my favorite ideas for spring is to make a faux jumper. I love the look of jumpsuits but they’re so impractical to wear. I’m planning on making a top and bottom- very fitted at the waist- that I can make in the same fabric to give the illusion that it’s all one. I also have a few vintage patterns I’m looking forward to working on. Most of these looks will be self drafted which I’m really looking forward to. I’ve received quite a bit of gifted fabric lately so my stash is nice and full. This is the first year that I’ve really had a stash to work with so I’m looking forward to having more than enough to work with for at least a few months.
Happy Sewing!
