Vintage Butterick 4659 Indigo Dyed Pant and Regatta Rib Knit Tank

I’m so in love with this whole look! If you saw my earlier dyeing post here’s the finished results, these 70’s vintage straight-leg pants with patch pockets. You can see the dye is much more subtle now but it really works for this look. I carefully cut out my yardage to keep the pattern lined up across the front, back and pockets.

The tank is a happy accident. I made this back during Me Made May but it was a bit baggy and I wasn’t happy with how it turned out. So I cut off all the bands and re-pieced it into this version with a cut in front and raglan like shoulder. I’m really into a higher neck with a cut in shoulder. I’ve drafted a few tanks in this style for summer. I’m really proud of my arms from all that yoga. It also has two side panels that are placed in the opposite direction which shows off the rib knit even more.

I made only a few slight modifications to the pattern after comparing it to my sloper. This pattern is one size-a 14- which is 36/28/38. I’m 36-29-39 and added a 1/2″ of additional allowance on both the front and back out seams until it tapered at the waist. The fit was spot on after that. The one change I made to the pattern- modifying my zipper installation- adding a self drafted fly facing and shield. I prefer a jean style zip on pants and 70’s patterns usually do more visible unfaced zips. Check out the pretty zipper (above details) with a fancy pull I bought from Stylemaker. I also love the self belt that starts near the side seam. I’ll be making this pattern again as I love the look of this leg. Slim at the hip with a gentle taper. Not too wide, not too slim-perfect!

On the home-front we’re in week 2 of online schooling with the kids and it’s going fantastically! Nigel is now in middle school and Ami is in 4th grade. The kids aren’t exactly thrilled to be back in school…but they both have amazing teachers. Plus the tech is working really well this year. Both kids bedrooms got updates- IKEA style! Now they can work in their bedrooms comfortably. With 3 of us online all day (me at work downstairs) it’s great having our own spaces. Plus the kids are on alternate schedules Ami-8-2 and Nigel 8:30-3. What’s nice is I get a little one on one time with each of them at lunch.

I’ve been working quite a bit and sewing up a storm on my awesome new sewing machine – the Janome Sewist 721. It’s a perfect little machine for me. Sews like a dream with a sturdy motor with just the basic stitches I use regularly.

It’s a bit too hot to wear these pants right now- it’s full on summer heat all day every day here in Florida. Can’t wait to wear these again when it cools down! Happy Sewing!
