Vogue 1358 Rayon Challis Floral Panel Print PJ Set

Everyone needs a pair of easy breezy summer PJ’s! This vintage 90’s Calvin Klein sewing pattern set is perfect for spring and summer loungewear. I wear these quite a bit around the house. They’re lightweight, not overly fitted and look so cute!

I made this set last summer- photographed them for the blog- and then promptly forgot to share them here! If you follow my blog or YouTube channel you know I love wearing pinks and anything periwinkle. The combo here with the black silhouette floral is beautiful! The fabric is lovely, soft and drapey but easy to sew. I had just enough to make this PJ set and the binding to finish them off.

I’ve had this fabric in my stash for quite some time but wasn’t sure what to make with it. It’s a bit too much for everyday wear- other than a dress. I went with PJ’s because when in doubt that’s the easiest way to feel comfy in a print. I decided to play around with the panel print placement and use the periwinkle on the hem to look like a band.

If I had had more yardage I would have shifted the placement- but I had maybe 1 1/2 yards. The top image shows the stripe in front, in the second image both pieces are worn backwards. I prefer the look of the solid design for the short. Because the shaping is pretty minimal in this Calvin Klein design, I can wear both the top and bottom either way (backwards) and you can hardly tell the difference.

This was my first try at the pattern so really these are a wearable muslin. I cut this in a straight 14. The blouse fits really well. It’s a bit oversized but fitted through the bust. I finished the edges with self cut bias that looks really lovely with the slight contrast of the print placement. The shorts are a nice longer length and quite comfy. The design is pretty basic with a simple elastic waistband.

Loose-fitting, unlined, slightly below hip jacket has mock bands, dropped shoulders, shoulder pads, stitched hems long sleeves. Loose-fitting, pullover top has narrow hem. Slightly flared skirt, above ankle, has narrow waistband and back zipper. Wide-legged shorts, above mid-knee or pants have elastic waist and stitched hems. B: no side seams.

I love finding older patterns in my size. They tend to fit my shape a little better than current designs and are pretty true to size. In current Vogue pattern sizing I usually drop 2 sizes because they have so much ease. I’m looking forward to making the skirt in this pattern too. I love the look of the shell with the skirt for summer. The image on the left of the pattern envelope was the impetus to purchase this pattern. Really nice simple basics from the 90’s.

I pulled out this shell to wear last week with my Periwinkle trousers and just loved the combination! You can see the pant in my March Makes video on YouTube. It’s Vogue 1437 Tamotsu Career Wardrobe (Size 16) Pant. It’s made up in a Windowpane Textured Viscose Deadstock in Periwinkle. Both fabrics are from Core fabrics and coordinate beautifully. You can see the top worn in my June makes video (releasing this Saturday).

I hope you’re all enjoying a beautiful summer wherever you are! Until next time, Happy Sewing!
