Happy Holidays! I’m back today with another fabulous fall make- and my last post of 2020! Ending the year with a perfect Florida wrap! I always need a light coverup in early fall to winter and this airy fabric is just perfect for our Florida climate. Plus double gauze always feels dreamy. This white organic cotton is so soft and lovely. I bought the Salsa Blouse pattern from The Sewing Workshop ages ago when I bought the Memphis dress pattern and promptly forgot it was in my stash. I love the shape especially with that button detail on the sides. It looks elegant buttoned at the sides and just as pretty loose and open. Plus it goes with just about everything in my closet.

The fabric was a bit tricky to work with, mainly keeping it from shifting off-grain, but pretty easy to sew. I used french seams on the interior and a simple double turn hem on the sleeves. The bottom edges are mitered using the techniques in the instructions as well as my handy dandy guide I bought from their shop as well. It’s a great tutorial booklet which I always keep handy.
I finished this off with hand-sewn loops and tiny shell buttons. The drop shoulders with their underarm gusset give great ease of movement. The cowl may be sewn on backwards- but it’s hardly noticeable. I love the shaping and fit on this jacket and am looking forward to making more!
On the Homefront:
I hope you’re all enjoying the holiday season! I’m really enjoying the time off and have lots of projects to work on in the next few weeks! I bought all my own presents this year for Christmas so I got everything I wanted! I’ve realized at this point it’s ridiculous to ask my husband to buy me fabric/sewing goodies. He’s amazing at picking out jewelry and books but sewing- not so much. My gifts were ordered so early I practically forgot what I was getting anyway by the time Christmas rolled by.
I already finished a new pair of jeans that are freaking amazing! Railroad stripe Japanese Raw denim in a high-waist wide leg pant I drafted more like a trouser with v shaped belt loops and beautifully finished on the interior. I can’t wait to share!
My mom and dad got us lots of goodies for our home so I’m enjoying a bit of decorating. And my bro got me the BEST GIFT EVER– a longboard! I’ve been practicing with my daughter who loves to skate. I haven’t been on a skateboard since I was in my 20’s but thankfully my balance is great what with all the yoga I do. My kids fav gifts this year were anime comics and bubble tea/ Thai iced tea kits plus cold hard cash. Even Suki got some awesome gifts- she got a dog bowl from the MET that has the Waves print on it!
Dinner was a true feast- Prime Rib with the works: mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, bok choi, yorkshire puds and off course Cole’s christmas pudding with custard. We figured if we were home by ourselves we might as well go all out for Christmas. We had an afternoon family zoom call with all my sibs and family which really made the day. It was a wonderful holiday!
Back soon with more makes! Happy Sewing! Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and a fabulous New Year!

This is like an Edwardian take on modern fashion. Love the loops and buttons and the fitted back contrasted with the drapey front. Beautiful open or closed. Love this!
I totally agree! Probably why I love it so much! Thanks!
This is a great top. I think it looks great on you and I agree the double-gauze is dreamy. It looks like a great style as a cover-up is so unusual to find a style that looks so good both buttoned up and open and loose.
Thanks so much! It’s great pattern.
